Man Surrenders at Police Station with Uncle’s Severed Head in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through Keonjhar district, a man walked into a police outpost carrying the severed head of his uncle and confessed to murdering him. The gruesome event took place on Friday night in Kaensarei village under Keonjhar Sadar police limits.

The accused, identified as Kabi Dehury, allegedly harboured a long-standing grudge against his uncle, Hari Dehury, over unresolved personal disputes. According to police sources, Kabi took advantage of the ongoing ‘Danda Nacha’—a traditional dance ritual being observed in the village—to carry out his brutal plan.

With most villagers gathered for the cultural event, Kabi reportedly lured his uncle to a nearby field on some pretext. There, he allegedly attacked and beheaded him with an axe. He later walked into the Suakati police outpost and surrendered, carrying the severed head as proof of his crime.

“I got to know that our nephew had hacked my brother to death later in the night. They had been fighting over many issues in the past. My sister-in-law woke me up and informed me,” said Arjun Dehury, another uncle of the accused, while speaking to the media.

Upon receiving the information, Keonjhar Sadar police rushed to the crime scene and initiated an investigation. A case has been registered, and the accused is currently in police custody. While the exact motive behind the murder is yet to be officially confirmed, police suspect past enmity may have triggered the act.

The probe is ongoing.
