Man shot dead over past enmity in Banki

(Reporters Today, Bhubaneswar): A man was shot dead by bike-borne assailants near Madhupalli road under Baidyapur police limits in Cuttack district last night. The deceased has been identified as Arjun Baliarsingh of Manipur village.

According to sources, the incident occurred on Friday night while Arjun was returning home when two bike-borne miscreants intercepted him near Madhupalli road and opened fire at him. The accused duo reportedly fled from the spot. On being informed, police reached the spot and rescued the blood-drenched man. He was immediately admitted to a hospital in Kalapathara area and was later shifted to Khurda hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Though the exact reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the incident took place over past rivalry. Tension prevailed in the area following the incident, sources added.
