Man Sells Son to Observe Death Anniversary of Wife

Cuttack: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly sold his son in Cuttack district to observe the death anniversary rituals of his wife. This incident was reported on Friday. According to reports, the father sold his one and a half year old son for just five thousand rupees. This incident of selling a baby boy has created chaos in Niali area of ​​Cuttack district. The man has also admitted that he sold the baby boy so that he could buy alcohol for himself.

According to information, the man identified as Sukanta Singh living in Mundasahi area of ​​Niali police station for the past three years. He has six children. Sukanta Singh’s wife died two years ago. Sukanta’s paternal home was however in Durga Devi area of ​​Mayurbhanj district. Among the six children, the youngest son was sold by the father for five thousand rupees.

Sukanta Singh admitted that he had sold his one and a half year old son through intermediary that is, three women and a man. He said that he spent five thousand rupees on his wife’s anniversary. It is reported that Sukanta Singh was a daily wage labourer and a drunkard.

Locals said that Sukanta Singh’s children used to fend for themselves by begging in the market area. Sukant’s son complained that his younger brother was sold by his father. The sale of the child was condemned in the local area and the locals demanded the rescue of the child at the earliest. Local people have also urged for strict action against the accused. The people have further complained that Sukanta might be involved in a big child selling racket.
