Man Ends Life, Blames Wife for Harassment

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident in Odisha’s Khordha district, a man allegedly died by suicide after accusing his wife of prolonged mental harassment. The deceased, identified as Ramachandra Badajena from Kumbharbasta village, reportedly jumped in front of a moving train near Nijigarh-Tapang railway track on Saturday.

Before taking the extreme step, Ramachandra recorded a video message in which he blamed his wife, Rupali, for his deteriorating mental health. Shortly after the video was made, he ended his life.

Ramachandra and Rupali had been married for two years and had a daughter. His family alleged that he was under constant pressure and harassment, which ultimately led to the tragic incident.

Following the incident, Government Railway Police (GRP) and local police rushed to the spot and recovered the body. A case was registered based on a complaint filed by Ramachandra’s parents, who accused Rupali and her family of abetting the suicide.

Police have arrested Rupali and booked her under Sections 108, 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Ramachandra’s mother claimed that Rupali frequently stayed at her parental home and often mistreated her husband for not visiting her family regularly. She further alleged that their family bore the full cost of the wedding and also paid ₹20 lakh to the bride’s family.

“My son was suffering mentally since his marriage. This heartbreaking outcome is a result of the torture he faced. We want justice,” she told the police.

A detailed investigation into the matter is underway.
