Major Assaulted Row: Fiancée Granted Gail
Bhubaneswar: An Army Major’s fiancée who was sent behind bars for allegedly biting a woman cop of Bharatpur Police in Bhubaneswar a few days ago, has been granted bail on Wednesday. The Orissa High Court, hearing the pleas of the accused girl’s family members, granted the bail. Apart from it, the Orissa High Court ruled to conduct a medical test of the accused, who had reportedly sustained grievous injuries in her body, allegedly thrashed by a team of cops.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Crime Branch of Odisha Police initiated a probe into the alleged scuffle between an Army officer and police at Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar. A five-member team led by Crime Branch DSP Narendra Kumar Behera began probing into the scuffle between the cop and an Army Major accompanied by his girlfriend. Sources said sleuths of the Crime Branch visited the Bharatpur Police Station in the afternoon, in pursuance of the directives of Odisha DGP YB Khurania, and Additional DGP CID/Crime Arun Bothra and investigated the case bearing No. CID CB PS Case no 10/2024, registered by the CID.
According to reports, the Crime Branch team interrogated the police station personnel for more than four hours and examined documents related to the case. Worth mentioning, an Army Major identified as Guruwant Singh of the 22 Sikh Regiment, Kolkata and his girlfriend Ankita Pradhan allegedly attacked a few cops of the Bharatpur police station on September 14 late at night. The cops allegedly refused to register a complaint against some miscreants who reportedly assaulted the Major’s girlfriend. After the Major attacked the police, the latter took the duo into custody and a case was registered.
Later, another complaint was filed by the Ex-Army Association alleging that police personnel thrashed the Army Major and his girlfriend on the very night while they had been to the Bharatpur Police to lodge a complaint.
