Madurai-bound IndiGo flight with 68 onboard returns mid-air due to technical snag

Chennai: In a mid-air scare on Friday, an IndiGo flight en route from Chennai to Madurai was compelled to return after a suspected technical glitch.
The flight which had departed Chennai International Airport, was carrying at least 68 passengers.
According to airport officials, the pilot detected an abrupt engine malfunction around half an hour into the flight, prompting him to act swiftly. He informed ATC (Air Traffic Control) and sought permission for emergency return to Chennai.
The aircraft safely landed in Chennai, and all the 68 passengers on board were deplaned without incident, they said.
The 102 flight had to be turned back for precautionary measures, said the officials.
IndiGo has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
Earlier, on June 17, an IndiGo flight from Kochi to Delhi made an emergency landing in Nagpur following a bomb threat. Similarly, on June 19, a SpiceJet flight returned mid-air after a technical fault, raising fears about flight safety post the recent Ahmedabad Air India crash that claimed 241 lives.
