Low Pressure Triggers Heavy Rain Alert Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has developed over Southwest Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Monday. The system is expected to become more marked and move in a west-northwest direction within the next 24 hours.

Under its influence, widespread rainfall is likely to occur across several districts in Odisha today. The IMD has issued warnings for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at one or two locations in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.

Additionally, heavy rainfall may occur in parts of Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Bargarh.

The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds across a wide swath of the state, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

The state government has urged residents in the affected regions to remain alert and take necessary precautions. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
