Land allotment for 2nd campus in GMU

Sambalpur,Dec 31:

VC Prof AK Pati informed, “The Government will hand over 47.2 acres of land to the GMU soon. After reopening of the revenue offices in the district after the advocates’ cease-work, the process will be completed and the most-awaited work for a second campus will begin soon.

This will put an end to shortage of space for the university where nearly 6,000 students are reading now. The existing campus is inadequate to accommodate all the departments.”

“We have applied for 50.5 acres of land at Basantpur on the other side of river Mahanadi. The Government has allotted us 47.2 acres since the remaining land is being used by other departments including IOCL,” Prof Pati said.

Very soon, the CPWD would prepare a master plan for the second campus. At the same time, extension of the existing campus is going on with Rs 27 crore of funds available from RUSA. The new campus would also be constructed from RUSA funds and the State Government,

University Deputy Registrar Dr UC Pati informed that at present 20 postgraduate (PG) departments are there in the GMU. Similarly, 18 undergraduate, 19 MPhil and 10 PhD departments are functioning here.
