Koraput Youth’s Organ Donation Saves Seven Lives

Koraput: In a heart-wrenching yet inspiring turn of events, a fatal road accident in Odisha’s Koraput district claimed the life of a young man, but his family’s courageous decision to donate his organs has brought new hope to seven critically ill patients across the country.
Ashish Kumar Chhualasingh, a resident of the DP Camp area in Sunabeda, met with a severe accident on the morning of April 1 when his motorcycle collided with a car near B Zone Square in Sunabeda. The 23-year-old, who was working as an apprentice at HAL and staying with his sister Sasmita and brother-in-law Amit Pradhan after losing both parents in recent years, suffered critical injuries.
He was initially admitted to HAL Hospital and later shifted to Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College in Koraput. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam, where he succumbed to his injuries late on April 5.
Despite their grief, Ashish’s family agreed to the hospital’s request for organ donation. His heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, and pancreas were successfully retrieved and sent to patients in Chennai, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, and other cities, saving seven lives.
Ashish’s final rites were performed at Swargadwar in Puri. His family’s selfless act has been widely praised, turning a personal loss into a powerful gesture of hope and humanity.
Ashish had lost his father to COVID-19 in 2021 and his mother in 2024, leaving behind a story of resilience, compassion, and ultimate sacrifice.
