Kolkata: West Bengal police have arrested the college guard on Saturday. The area where three men sexually assaulted the law college student on June 25 at the college premises have also been sealed.
The three accused have been identified as Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukhopadhyay. They have been arrested and are in police custody till July 1. According to the sources, College guard Pinaki Banerjee has also been arrested. The total number of arrests has now reached four in the crime.
Sources say that, college guard was detained by the police for questioning but was later arrested due to incoherent replies. The CCTV showed that he was present in the college premises at the time of the incident.
A five-member SIT has also been formed under the supervision of ACP Pradip Kumar Ghosal, SSD, to investigate the alleged sexual assault incident at South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata on 25th June evening.
The arrest of two current students and one alumnus was conducted after quick action by the police following the complaint by the survivor. The unidentified victim, whose health recently deteriorated, filed her first information report (FIR) following the suspected assault that occurred between 7:30 pm and 8:50 pm on June 25.
This disturbing incident follows less than a year after an August 2024 rape‑murder of a 31‑year‑old trainee doctor within RG Kar Medical College, which led to countrywide protests and calls for added security measures in schools.
