Khordha: Businessman shot at, Jewelry looted

Balugan: A businessman was shot at while gold and silver jewelry worth lakhs were looted from him in Khordha district of Odisha early in the morning on Friday. The incident took place on the rear side road of Nimikheta village under Balugan police station limits.
The victim has been identified as Prahallad Nayak (37), a gold trader from Umakantpur village under Balugan Police Station limits.
According to information, the gold trader was on his way to Banapur, Balugaon on his Glamour bike early in the morning today when 5 miscreants on two black motorcycles stopped him on the back side road of Nimiketa village.
After an initial scuffle, they fired two rounds of bullets. Accordingly, Prahllad sustained broke the bike’s dickey box, looted more than 15 kg of silver ornaments and fled the scene.
As a result of the gunfire, the trader was seriously injured and fell to the ground. The locals rescued the trader and admitted him to Balugaon hospital. He was later shifted to Bhubaneswar as his health condition deteriorated.
On receiving the information, the Balugaon police immediately reached the spot and started investigation. The businessman’s bike was found lying at the scene of the incident, along with empty bullet shell casings.
