Kandhamal: Girl falls off boyfriend’s bike, dies

Baliguda: In a tragic incident, a girl died reportedly after falling off a bike near Sitapadi in Kandhamal district while traveling with her boyfriend on National Highway 59.

The deceased girl has been identified as Sonali Pradhan of Ranipanga village under Kotagarh police station limit. She was a second year student of BSc (Bachelor of Science).

Sources said that Pradhan was reportedly going to her village from her college in Phulbani. After getting down from the bus at Baliguda, she decided to go to her native village on her boyfriend’s bike.

However, Sonali fell from the bike and sustained critical injuries when the lovebirds had reached near Sitapadi village. With the help of some locals, her boyfriend took her to the Baliguda Hospital for treatment. But doctor declared her dead.

Though under what circumstances, Sonali fell from the bike is yet to be known, it is suspected that she fell off the two-wheeler as her boyfriend was riding it at a high speed.

On being informed, police started an investigation into the matter by detaining Sonali’s boyfriend for interrogation. They also seized the ill-fated bike and handed over her body to the family members after postmortem.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on the area following Sonali’s tragic death.
