Kalahandi Police Seize ₹3.51 Crore, Arrest 8 Dacoits

Bhubaneswar: In a rare turn of events, Kalahandi Police successfully busted a major loot case, leading to the arrest of eight interstate dacoits and the seizure of over ₹3.51 crore. The loot was carried out from a country liquor plant in Dharamgarh, Kalahandi district, on January 30.

The police operation began after two of the accused sought a lift from a police vehicle while trying to flee the scene. The dacoits, who had looted a huge amount from the liquor plant, were apprehended when they unexpectedly requested a ride from officers traveling on the same route. This led to the breakthrough, as police were able to extract information from them, leading to further arrests and the recovery of the stolen money.

A total of ₹3.51 crore in cash was recovered, along with firearms, bullets, vehicles, and other evidence. The police also discovered the money hidden in a nearby forest. The arrested dacoits are from Ranchi district, Jharkhand, and have been identified as Tahir Ansari, Hussain Khan, Jasim Khan, Samim Ansari, Basudev Gope, Pintu alias Alim, Anuj Kumar, and Sameem Ansari.

On the night of January 30, the gang, armed with deadly weapons, stormed the liquor plant and threatened the staff, before looting the cash. They fled the scene in a Bolero vehicle with registration number JH10AP4817. While most of the gang managed to escape, the two dacoits who sought the lift were caught, leading to the identification and arrest of the rest of the criminals.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle used in the robbery had been traced to Jharkhand, prompting police teams from 11 districts across Odisha and Jharkhand to coordinate efforts. Districts involved included Balangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundergarh, Rourkela, Ranchi Rural, Lohardaga, West Singhbhum, and Simdega.

The police action received praise from Odisha DGP Y.B. Khurania, who commended the quick response of Kalahandi SP Abhilash G. and his team. The accused have a criminal history, with Yaseem having over six pending cases in Ranchi, Aleem Ansari two, and Tahir Ansari three.

The success of the operation was attributed to the excellent coordination between the police forces of both states. The investigation is ongoing.
