Jonny Bairstow suffers minor finger fracture
England’s wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow has left the field after injuring his hand while keeping against India. Bairstow was struck on the left hand by the last ball of the 44th over, which swung a distance after passing the batsman. He left the field holding his hand in pain, with Jos Buttler taking the gloves in his absence.
Bairstow went to hospital for a scan, where it was confirmed that he had “sustained a small fracture to his left middle finger”. He is unlikely to resume keeping duties in this game, but it is suspected that, if needed, he will bat. With the injury an external one, there is no amount of time during England’s innings that has to have elapsed before he can begin his innings.
