Jammu&Kashmir: Peoples’ Democratic Party and Cong to form coalition govt.
New Delhi: The People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) and the Congress will form a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir. National Conference (NC) will provide support to the government from outside. Media reports said NC will not seek cabinet berth.
The Mehbooba Mufti’s PDP has 28 legislators in the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly. The Congress has 12 and the National Conference with 15 members makes the number game possible for the coalition government.
The state assembly has not been dissolved by the Governor Satyapal Mallik. It is under governor’s rule that cannot be extended after it completes its six-month period on December 19.
It may be recalled that the BJP pulled out of the ruling coalition on June 16, following which Mehbooba Mufti government fell.
