ITI student falls into Koel River while taking selfie

Rourkela: Clicking selfie by the Koel River in Odisha’s Rourkela turned tragic for an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) student as he fell to death on Sunday.

One Swadhin Oram, a student of Bastiya ITI Sector-6 Rourkela had gone to the river for sightseeing along with three of his friends. In order to capture the happy moment and beautiful nature, they were clicking photos on the Pradhanpali Bridge. However, accidentally all of them fell into the river and were being swept away by strong current of water.

On noticing the students being swept away in the river, the locals soon swung into action and successfully rescued three of them. But as Swadhin remained ungraceful, they informed the fire service personnel about it.

Within no time, the recue team reached the spot and rescued him in a critical condition. He was taken into the Rourkela Government Hospital. But he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

A pall of gloom descended on the locality over Oram’s death and the locals demanded compensation for the family members of the deceased student.
