India’s mineral and metal sector set for sustainable growth with focus on R&D innovation

Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Mines, in partnership with CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT), hosted a workshop on Wednesday titled “Strengthening R&D in Indian Mineral and Metal Sector – Policy Framework for Sustainable Growth, 2025” at CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar.
The event brought together policymakers, academic leaders, and industry experts to discuss advancing research in geology, mining, and mineral processing. Chief Guest, Shakil Alam, Economic Advisor at the Ministry of Mines, highlighted the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies like AI and ML into the sector’s curricula and R&D initiatives. Panel discussions focused on aligning academic programs with global advancements and identifying research priorities to ensure sustainability in mineral resources.
Key participants included leaders from premier institutions such as IITs, ISM Dhanbad, and NIT Jamshedpur, as well as industry giants like Hindalco and Sterlite Copper.
The workshop reaffirmed India’s commitment to fostering innovation and strengthening academia-industry collaboration in the mineral sector.
