IMD Predicts Thunderstorms, Hail in Odisha Till April 11

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a spell of unstable weather across several districts in Odisha, with thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and hail likely to continue until April 11.

In its midday bulletin on Saturday, the IMD said light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur in parts of south Odisha, including Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam on April 6, while dry weather is likely to prevail elsewhere. A yellow warning has also been issued for thunderstorms with lightning in these districts.

On Sunday (April 7), similar weather conditions are expected in Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada, with the rest of the state remaining dry.

For Monday (April 8), the forecast indicates light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh. A yellow warning has been issued for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 km/h in these areas.

The weather is expected to intensify further on April 10, with light to moderate showers likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.

On April 11, the weather activity is expected to cover more areas, with rainfall predicted in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada. The rest of Odisha is likely to experience dry conditions.

Meanwhile, maximum temperatures across the state are expected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two days, with no significant change expected afterward.

The IMD has advised residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and lightning events.
