IMD Predicts Milder Winter and Fewer Coldwave Days Across India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a milder winter for the country this year, with fewer coldwave days expected in various regions. According to the IMD’s outlook for the winter season (December 2024 to February 2025), above-normal minimum temperatures are anticipated across most of India, while maximum temperatures will likely be above normal in most parts, except for certain areas in south Peninsular India, where temperatures may be normal to below normal.
The IMD also stated that the occurrence of coldwaves is expected to be below normal in northwest, central, east, and northeastern regions of the country during this winter season. Specifically, December 2024 will see above-normal minimum temperatures over most areas, with monthly maximum temperatures also predicted to be above normal, except in some parts of central India where normal temperatures are expected.
The IMD’s forecast indicates a deviation from the usual winter chill, which is likely to affect the daily life and seasonal expectations across the nation.
