IMD Predicts Heavy Rain in Odisha; Alerts Issued for Several Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Odisha from June 30 to July 5, with several districts likely to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall due to a low-pressure area formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal.

According to the IMD, four districts—Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda—have been placed under orange alert and are expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall today.

Additionally, 14 other districts, including Bargarh, Balangir, Subarnapur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Nabarangapur, are under a yellow warning for heavy rainfall.

The IMD has also issued a warning for rough sea conditions, advising fishermen not to venture into the Bay of Bengal during this period.

In response, the Odisha government has placed disaster response teams on standby for any emergency relief or rescue operations.

Residents in the affected districts have been urged to stay updated with official weather bulletins, follow safety advisories, and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours.
