IMD Issues Thunderstorm Alert for Several Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings for various districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.

As per the regional weather centre’s nowcast bulletin issued at 10:15 AM on Monday, moderate thunderstorms with lightning and surface wind speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected to affect parts of Koraput, Kalahandi, Balangir, and Bargarh districts in the next two to three hours.

The IMD has advised residents in these areas to remain alert, as strong winds may cause minor damage to loose or unsecured structures, banana plantations, and standing crops. People are urged to monitor weather updates and move to safer locations if conditions worsen.

In addition, yellow warnings have been issued for Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Boudh, and Kandhamal districts, where light to moderate rainfall, gusty winds (30–40 kmph), and lightning are expected within the next three hours.

The IMD has urged residents in these regions to take necessary precautions against lightning and avoid venturing into open areas during thunderstorms.
