IMD issues red alert for extremely heavy rain

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued a red warning for extremely heavy rain in Odisha while issuing alert for next seven days.

In its latest bulletin, the IMD said, “The low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood lay over southwest Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood at 8.30 AM of today. The associated cyclonic circulation extended upto 7.6 km above mean sea level titling southwestwards with height. It is likely to move slowly west north-westwards across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh during next two days.”

Day 1 (Valid upto 8.30 AM of 08.07.2025):

  • RED WARNING: Extremely heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bargarh and Balangir.
  • ORANGE WARNING: Heavy to Very Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.
  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
  • Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurdha, Gajapati, and Ganjam.

Day 2 (Valid from 8.30 AM of 08.07.2025 to 8.30 AM of 09.07.2025):

  • ORANGE WARNING: Heavy to Very Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Balangir and Nuapada.
  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.
  • Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.

Day 3 (Valid from 8.30 AM of 09.07.2025 to 8.30 AM of 10.07.2025):

  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy Rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.

Day 4 (Valid from 8.30 AM of 10.07.2025 to 8.30 AM of 11.07.2025):

  • Light to moderate rain or Thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha.

Day 5 (Valid from 8.30 AM of 11.07.2025 to 8.30 AM of 12.07.2025):

  • Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha.

Day 6 (Valid from 8.30 AM of 12.07.2025 to 8.30 AM of 13.07.2025):

  • Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Odisha.

Day 7 (Valid from 8.30 AM of 13.07.2025 to 8.30 AM of 14.07.2025):

  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy Rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Odisha.
