IAS Officer Dhiman Chakma Granted Bail in Bribery Case by Orissa High Court

Bhubaneswar: The Orissa High Court has granted conditional bail to IAS officer Dhiman Chakma, who was arrested in June by the Vigilance department in connection with a high-profile bribery case.
Chakma, serving as the Sub-Collector of Dharmagarh, was released on a bail bond of ₹5 lakh with two sureties. His earlier bail plea had been rejected by the Bhawanipatna District Vigilance Court, prompting him to approach the High Court.
The officer was arrested on June 8 for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh from a local businessman at his official residence. Following his arrest, the Vigilance department conducted a search of his government quarters, seizing cash amounting to ₹47,47,600.
The case has drawn significant public attention as part of the state’s ongoing crackdown on corruption among public officials. Further investigation by the Vigilance department is underway.
