Heavy to very heavy rain in Odisha to continue as IMD issues warnings

Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rain in Odisha will continue for another couple of days as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow warnings for several districts.

Taking a note of the IMD’s rain warning, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) alerted the concerned collectors of the districts.

WEATHER WARNING:

DAY-1: Valid upto 8.30 AM of July 6:

  • ORANGE WARNING: Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Jharsuguda.
  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Koraput, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Balangir and Nuapada.
  • Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur.

DAY-2: Valid from 8.30 AM of July 6 to 8.30 AM of July 7:

  • ORANGE WARNING: Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar.
  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Angul, Denkhanal, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Rayagada.
  • Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur.

DAY-3: Valid from 8.30 AM of July 7 to 8.30 AM of July 8:

  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Bargarh.

DAY-4: Valid from 8.30 AM of July 8 to 8.30 AM of July 9:

  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy rain very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sundargarh.

ADVISORY of SRC:

  • Districts under orange and yellow warning to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality.
  • People may be advised to keep watch on weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning.
  • Avoid going to areas that face the water logging problems often.
  • Submit a report on the damage, if occurred due to thunderstorm, whirlwind, hailstorm, lightning and rainfall immediately for information of the govt.
