Graduation Mandatory For Anganwadi Workers

Bhubaneswar: Odisha cabinet today approved proposal of the Odisha Children’s and Women’s Welfare Service (Amendment) Rules, 2025 in its meeting held today.

As per the existing provisions of the Odisha Children’s and Women’s Welfare Service Rules, 1989, an Anganwadi worker is required to pass High School Certificate (HSC) or equivalent examination from Board of Secondary Education, Odisha or equivalent Board/Council for appointment on selection to the cadre of Junior Grade of Service.

As per the present Amendment rule an Anganwadi Worker must have passed Graduation or equivalent examination from any recognized University for appointment on selection to the Cadre of Junior Grade of Service. This will not be applicable in case of the existing Anganwadi Workers, who are continuing as per the pre-amended rule. The existing Anganwadi Workers would be considered for selection as per the earlier qualification.
With increased use of technology and IT, as well as more scientific techniques for child care and management of pregnancy, more qualified manpower in the field will be beneficial. This initiative will strengthen the service delivery mechanism, quality management in implementation of the schemes meant for well being of Women and children being administered by the state.
