Govt hikes contractual employees’ cessation Benefit

Bhubaneswar: In what can be considered as a good news for the contractual employees of Odisha government ahead of the Rath Yatra, the State government today hiked their cessation benefit from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh.
In a press release the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that the State government was earlier providing cessation benefit of Rs 1.5 lakh to each contractual employees, but Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today gave his approval to the proposal to hike the cessation benefit to Rs 2.5 lakh.
As per the Chief Minister’s decision, in case the contractual employees have been absorbed into regular posts but have not completed five years of service will also be entitled to get a cessation benefit of Rs 2.5 lakh each. However, those who have completed five years in regular posts will be eligible to get a minimum gratuity of Rs 2.5 lakh each during their Cessation of Service.
This apart, the state government also has decided that this one-time gratuity amount will be increased by 10 per cent once in every two years. The concerned departments can hike the gratuity amount and for this they do not need to have the permission of the State Finance Department.
