Government prepares for possible flood like situation in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In view of the possible flood like situation in Odisha, the Government has convened a hi-level meeting for management of the situation. According to reports, Heavy rains have been experienced in many parts of the state. Along with this, the water level of various rivers is rising.
The water level of Jalaka and Baitarani rivers is flowing above the danger mark. The government has prepared to deal with possible flood like situation as the water level in the rivers is rising. The Water Resources Department’s Chief engineer Chandrashekhar Padhi informed in this regard in a press conference on Saturday.
The Chief Engineer of the Water Resources Department said that as the water level in the Jalaka river is rising, necessary steps will be taken and that they area in regular touch with the district administration. People will be evacuated and moved to safer places if needed.
The district collectors of Jajpur and Bhadrak have been informed and instructed to monitor the situation and take necessary steps. Some areas of Dhamnagar and Jajpur will be affected by the flood. The officers have been instructed to be alert. They have been asked to be ready with the necessary items and monitor all the preparations.
It is worth mentioning here that, the Brahmani river has not flooded yet. As much as four lakh cusecs of water is entering Hirakud. Water is flowing through three gates in Rengali Dam. It is expected that the water level in Rengali Dam on Brahmani River shall continue flowing below the danger mark and will not affect the locals too much.
