Girl’s Body Found Floating in Mahanadi

Athagarh: In a shocking incident, the body of a girl was found floating in the Mahanadi near Anandapur under Khuntuni police limits in Cuttack today. The deceased, identified as Aditi Parija, a student of a private college belonging to Sundarpada in Bhubaneswar, had reportedly gone missing after jumping off the Mundali bridge a few days back.
Locals saw the body floating and informed police who along with fire services personnel arrived at the spot and started rescue efforts immediately. While it was initially suspected that the body was that of Aditi, police had maintained that they will confirm only after family members identify it.
As per reports, two days back, Aditi kept her two-wheeler bearing registration number OD 02B E0396 on the Mundali Barrage and went missing after jumping into the river. Some onlookers who witnessed the incident informed the police about the incident then. When the body was spotted two days later, there was speculation that it was the body of the same girl who had jumped into the river but police, after reaching the spot, wanted confirmation by the kin of the deceased.
After the rescue operation, family members were called to identify the body and they confirmed that it was that of Aditi. Police meanwhile said a case has been registered and the exact cause of death will be ascertained only after autopsy. Probe is underway to establish what led her to take such a drastic step.
