Ganjam Man Preserves India’s Rare Coin Collection

Kabisuryanagar: A. Brahmananda Achary, a resident of Kabisuryanagar in Ganjam district, has gained admiration for his dedication to preserving India’s numismatic heritage. His passion for collecting rare and historical coins has led him to amass an extensive collection that includes golden coins, Hanuman coins, and one paise and two paise coins once in circulation across the country.

These coins, which were once a staple of everyday transactions, have largely disappeared from circulation and are now primarily found in history books or private collections. Brahmananda’s collection offers a tangible connection to the rich economic and cultural history of India.

His devotion to numismatics has earned him recognition, not only for his remarkable collection but also as a dedicated social worker. The collection includes both domestic and international currencies that have been phased out over time, providing a comprehensive view of the evolution of monetary systems.

Locals are now advocating for government support to facilitate a public exhibition of Brahmananda’s collection. Such an exhibition would allow him to showcase his coins to a wider audience, fostering a deeper appreciation for India’s historical monetary past.

Through his efforts, Brahmananda hopes to inspire younger generations, preserving this numismatic legacy as an educational resource for the years to come.
