Fraudster arrested for duping man of Rs 180,000

Cuttack: Commissionerate Police on Sunday arrested a fraudster on charges of duping a man of Rs 180,000 in Odisha’s Cuttack City over selling a vehicle on Facebook.

In a press meet today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rishikesh Khilari informed that Priyabrat Das, who is a habitual fraudster, had put-up an advertisement on the Facebook to sell a vehicle.

After coming across the advertisement, the complainant reportedly contacted Das and gave him Rs 180,000 after finalizing the deal to purchase the vehicle. However, the accused avoided him after getting money from the complainant.

After realizing that he was duped by Priyabrat Das, he filed a complaint with the Mangalabag Police, based on which an investigation was initiated and the accused was arrested, said the DCP.

In course of the probe, police came to know that the accused had duped at least seven persons on the social media platform and recovered Rs 65,000 cash from his possession.
