Four Held in Tiger Poaching Case

Baripada: In a major breakthrough in the poaching of a melanistic Royal Bengal Tiger in Similipal, Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, forest officials have arrested four more individuals in connection with the crime. The authorities also seized the tiger’s skin during the operation.
The arrests followed the interrogation of two poachers who were apprehended earlier and were in possession of the tiger’s claws and teeth. After being brought on remand, the two poachers admitted to hunting the tiger and provided information about their accomplices.
Acting on the information received, a special enforcement team from Similipal South carried out a raid on January 12. The team, working undercover, arrested the four additional suspects while they were attempting to sell the melanistic tiger skin.
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the case, which highlights the ongoing threat of wildlife poaching in the region.
