Four Arrested for Illegal Coal Mining in Sundargarh

Bhubaneswar: Cracking down on illegal coal mining activities in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, the local administration has taken decisive action by arresting four individuals allegedly involved in the unlawful practice.
Acting on a complaint lodged by Mangal Charan Hembram, Junior Mining Officer of Rourkela, the Hemgiri police arrested the accused from Telendihi, Ratansara, and Bhograkachhar areas under the jurisdiction of Mahanadi Coalfields.
The arrested have been identified as Samir Dansena of Ratansara, Golananda Majhi of Ratanpur, Hemanand Seth of Jhupuranga, and Alok Seth of Gopalpur in Sundargarh district.
During the operation, police seized two tractors and motorcycles used in the illegal mining activities. A case was registered based on the complaint, and an investigation was launched promptly.
“We have arrested four persons for their involvement in illegal coal mining and produced them before a local court,” confirmed Sundargarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nirmal Mahapatra.
The crackdown is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining operations in the region.
