Former MP Baishnab Charan Parida passes away

Bhubaneswar: Former Member of Rajya Sabha, Baishnab Charan Parida passed away on Thursday at the age of 77.

Parida, who is a politician, writer, and social activist, died on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was undergoing treatment at AMRI hospital for the past nine days. Parida was detected with cancer around 7-8 months ago.

Parida was born on February 15, 1941, in Srirampur village of Jajpur district.

He was earlier a member of the Samajwadi Party from 1999-2008 and later joined Biju Janata Dal (BJD). The former leader was serving as the member of the Rajya Sabha from 2010-16.

The former MP was popular for leading the Odia Bhasha Andolan (language movement) in the state.
