Former Kandhamal PEO Arrested by Odisha Vigilance

Daringbadi: The former Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Saramuli Gram Panchayat under Daringbadi Block of Kandhamal district was arrested by Odisha Vigilance on Thursday for embezzlement of government money over Rs 53 lakhs. The fund had been allotted under SFC/CFC grants.

The accused PEO has been identified as Akrura Majhi, the Former PEO of Saramuli GP under Daringbadi Block in Kandhamal district.

As per reports, on the allegation of bungling of Govt funds over Rs.53 Lakhs by Akrura Majhi, Former PEO a verification was taken up by Odisha Vigilance.

During the verification, Majhi, Former PEO who is at present working at Daringbadi Block was found to have misappropriated Govt. funds to the tune of Rs. 53, 38, 809/- under 15th CFC and 5th SFC by not executing  developmental works of Saramuli GP during the period 31.10.23 to 18.11.2024, while he was working as PEO.

Rather, Majhi has reflected execution of different works in the Cash Book and shown payment of total amount against the works done, and thereby has misappropriated Rs.53,38,809/-  causing huge loss to the Government.

Following this, the accused has been arrested by Odisha Vigilance and is being forwarded today to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani.

In this connection, Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No 8/18.6.2025 U/s 13(2)r/w13(1)PC (Amendment), Act, 2018/316(5)/BNS has been registered against the accused person Majhi, Former PEO.

Further investigation of the matter is underway.
