Flood Situation Under Control in Balasore Despite Rising River Levels

Balasore: Despite a rise in water levels in several rivers, the flood situation in Balasore district remains under control, according to the Odisha Government’s Water Resources Department.

Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary of the department, visited the State Hydrological Data Centre early Monday to review flood preparedness. The centre, which functions round-the-clock, keeps track of river water levels and rainfall across the state.

Garg directed the Engineer-in-Chief and field teams to maintain close surveillance of the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka rivers, and ensure quick response wherever necessary.

In Jaleswar, although no villages have been cut off by floodwaters, around 150 people have been evacuated from vulnerable areas as a precautionary measure. In Baliapal block, two villages are surrounded by water, while two gram panchayats in Bhograi are reported to be waterlogged. However, officials confirmed that no houses have been submerged.

“No major situation has been reported from any block in Balasore district at present,” the department stated, assuring that the situation is being monitored closely.
