Flood Situation causing concern in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The flood situation following the continuous rain in the last 72-hours is cause for concern across Odisha. Though the impact of cyclone Titli was less, the heavy downpour in its aftermath has caused widespread damaged in three districts of Odisha.

Ganjam district has been the worst affected by the flood waters with places including Bhanjanagar, Sorada, Dharakote, Aska, Purushottampur and Seragada still marooned. Airdropping of relief items in the cyclone-affected areas of the district is underway the two helicopters of the Indian Navy.

Baitarani River, on the other hand, is flowing at 18.03 metres against the danger mark of 17.83 metres near Akhuapada in Bhadrak district.

Road communication on Puruna Cuttack-Sambalpur route was affected as water was flowing five-feet above road near Madhapur in Athagarh of Cuttack district.

At least 13 villages under Badasahi block in Mayurbhanj district have been marooned as the flood water of Budhabalanga river flowed 3 feet above Patalipura bridge.

In Balasore, the water level of Kansabansa river has touched the danger level at 7.5 metres at Soro while the water level of Budhabalanga has crossed the danger level at Baruni Ghat. Road communication between Salampur and Sonari has been disrupted due to overflowing of floodwater at a height of about 5 feet.

The three-member ministerial committee comprising of Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty, Water Resources Minister Niranjan Pujari and Energy Minister Sushanta Singh are on a visit to Ganjam district to monitor rescue, relief and restoration operations.

Earlier yesterday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik constituted the three-member ministerial committee to review the relief and restoration works in three districts affected by cyclonic storm Titli.
