Five Cops Suspended for Liquor Party at Balasore Collector’s Residence

Bhubaneswar: In a serious breach of discipline, five police personnel have been suspended for allegedly organizing a liquor party at the official residence of the Balasore Collector, in a shocking incident that has gone viral on social media.

The suspended personnel—Havildar Hemanta Barik and Constables Siddheshwar Gochhayat, Deba Majhi, Sudhanshu Jena, and Ramachandra Tapaswi—were deployed for security duty at the residence of Balasore Collector Suryawanshi Mayur Vikash.

According to reports, on the night of June 1, while the Collector was away on official work, the police staff unauthorizedly organized a party inside the guard room of the residence. The party reportedly involved consumption of liquor and non-vegetarian food, accompanied by loud music and dancing—all while the personnel were in uniform.

Videos of the cops dancing under the influence of alcohol surfaced on social media, drawing widespread criticism and prompting swift action.

Taking serious note of the incident, Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) ordered the immediate suspension of all five personnel for dereliction of duty and conduct unbecoming of police service.

A preliminary investigation revealed empty liquor bottles near the guard room, reinforcing allegations of misconduct. A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) has been assigned to conduct a detailed inquiry, and further disciplinary action may follow based on the findings.

The incident has raised concerns about discipline and accountability among on-duty security personnel at high-profile government residences.
