Five arrested for IPL betting in Berhampur

Berhampur: In a major breakthrough, Berhampur police on Wednesday arrested as many as five persons on charges of their involvement in betting during the matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to sources, the Berhampur Town Police arrested four people while the Baidyanathpur Police arrested a man following raids in their respective jurisdictions based on inputs regarding the IPL betting from reliable sources.
Apart from arresting the six accused persons, police also seized a total of six mobile phones, three motorbikes, cash of Rs 70,000 and receipts of money transactions from the possessions of the accused persons during the raids.
After registering cases against the accused and forwarding them to the court post their medical examinations, the police are conducting further investigation to find out others’ involved in this IPL betting.
Meanwhile, cops advised general public to enjoy the game of cricket but refrain from such betting or else would face stricter actions.
