First India-made Engineless Train

Chennai,23-10-2018:The first train conceptualized,designed and manufactured in India will be released for trial in a week’s time.The train is self-propelled and does not need a locomotive,said Sudhansu Man,General Manager of the Integral Coach Factory where the train is manufactured.The train set,name Train-18 will cost Rs 100 crore.Costs are expected to come down as the volume scales up.A second rake will be ready by March.

Built for a quick intra-day travel on Shatabdi Express routes,the sixteen coach train has the latest amenities and can cut down travel time by 10 to 15 %.Two executive class coaches in the centre of the train have seats that can rotate by 360 degrees,allowing passengers the option to have a straight-on view of  the scenery.
