Feeble Low Pressure Area Forms Over South Bay of Bengal: IMD

Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area has developed over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Sunday. This formation is the result of an upper air cyclonic circulation that existed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas on Saturday.
According to the IMD, the system is likely to move in a northwestward direction over the southwest Bay of Bengal until April 8. Following this, it is expected to shift nearly northwards over the west-central Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 48 hours.
Meteorological models, including those from ECMWF, NCEP GFS, and IMD GFS, have indicated that the system will remain weak and not intensify further. The models project a gradual northwestward movement for the next two to three days, followed by a northward drift over the west-central Bay of Bengal.
The IMD has clarified that the chances of intensification are minimal due to unfavourable wind shear conditions prevailing over the central Bay of Bengal. As a result, the system is expected to remain a feeble low pressure area without developing into a significant weather disturbance.
No coastal warnings have been issued yet, but the IMD continues to monitor the system for any further developments.
