Farmers stage demo in front of Forest Office in Parjang

Dhenkanal, Dec 21: Farmers in the district Thursday staged demonstration in front of Forest Office in Parjang in the wake of repeated attacks by wild elephants in the past few days and have submitted a 10-point demands under the banner of Chasi Surakshya Manch.

        The demands include job to one of the members of deceased family, enhancing compensation amount to Rs 10 lakh for those injured in elephant attack and Rs 20 lakhs to the families of those killed, construction of watch tower to track elephants, signage of elephants corridor.

However, DFO Sudarshan Patra said, “We have mobilized forest officials to track elephants movement . We are helpless as elephants are sexually active during the winter season.”

Notably, the Forest Department is unable to help the people as wild tuskers rule the roost at several places in Dhenkanal district during the winter season when they are sexually active.
