Failed Robbery in Jajpur Leaves Two Dead, One Injured
Jajpur: An attempted daylight robbery at Panikoili in Jajpur district ended in tragedy today, leaving two people dead and one critically injured. The incident occurred when five armed looters tried to rob an employee of a jewellery shop.
Sunil Ray, an employee of Panda Alankar, was en route to deposit cash at a nationalized bank’s Panikoili branch when the looters, riding two motorcycles, intercepted him. In the ensuing struggle, they opened fire, critically injuring Ray.
A stray bullet fatally struck Nilamadhab Panda, a bystander at the scene. The incident unfolded between 1 PM and 1:30 PM on the stretch between the jewellery shop and the bank.
Local residents chased the looters, managing to apprehend two of them, while two others escaped. One of the detained looters was severely beaten by the crowd and later admitted to the hospital. Reports suggest that a fifth suspect is hiding inside the jewellery shop.
Ray was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to a private hospital in Cuttack, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene and launched an investigation into the incident. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
