Ex-Tahasildar and Amin Convicted in Bribery Cases

Subrat Kumar Behera, the former Tahasildar-cum-Sub-Registrar of Tarva in Subarnapur district and currently the Tahasildar of Kodinga in Nabarangpur, has been convicted and sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir. He was also fined Rs 30,000.

Behera was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant in exchange for the registration of a sale deed for land. The case was filed by Odisha Vigilance under Sambalpur Vigilance PS Case No.29, dated November 16, 2020. Following his conviction, Odisha Vigilance will seek Behera’s dismissal from service.

In another related case, Subhrajeet Sahoo, the former Amin of Sadar Tahasil in Dhenkanal, currently serving as the Amin of Gondia Tahasil, was also convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal. Sahoo was sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 50,000 for demanding and accepting a bribe for submitting a demarcation report. This case was registered under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.1, dated January 3, 2019.
