Enterprising endeavours of EMD collective of SAIL, RSP brings substantial savings
Rourkela, Dec 5: A group of employees of Energy Management Department (EMD) of Rourkela Steel Plant(RSP), have successfully revived the Oxygen Breathing Apparatus(OBA) P-30 in the Gas Safety Section of EMD thereby bringing about a substantial one time savings of Rs. 25 lakhs in addition to the enhanced availability of OBAs.
It may be noted that there were only 6 Oxygen Breathing Apparatus which were not sufficient to meet the sudden requirement for the gas maintenance activities carried out in the Plant by different Departments. Insufficient OBAs sometimes created delays in the execution of gas line maintenance jobs. This called for frequent oxygen filling in shorter duration, which exerted excess load on the compressor.
A team of employees comprising GS Mishra, Manager, AN Behera, KK Gauda, RK Kujur (all Senior Technicians) and JB Das, ACT revived 8 Oxygen Breathing Apparatus.
They used the salvaged spare parts from unserviceable sets as well as consumables from different Plant units in the repair job.
The successful revival of 8 Oxygen Breathing Apparatus P-30 has brought about several tangible and intangible benefits.
The group was felicitated by CR Mohapatra GM (Utilities) under the special scheme ‘Utkarsh’ initiated by Personnel Department of RSP.
