Eminent Odia litterateur Rajat Kar cremated with full state honours

Bhubaneswar, May 9(Reporters Today Bureau): Eminent Odia litterateur Rajat Kar, who had passed away on Sunday at the age of 88, was cremated at Swargdwar in Puri with full State honours on Monday.

Kar passed away during treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Sunday following a cardiac arrest.

A native of Mahanga in Cuttack district, Kar had enriched Odia language and literature in many ways.

He had immense knowledge on ‘Bhanja’ literature and his contribution to the promotion of Jagannath culture remains memorable.

He has been doing commentary of Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra since 1959.

He received a number of prestigious awards for his contribution to the field of literature and education.

He was awarded Padma Shri in 2021 for his contribution to the revival of the dying art of Pala, in the literature and education fields.
