Elderly Couple Brutally Attacked, Robbed in Puri’s Kamadari Village

Puri: A brutal robbery and assault in Kamadari village under Balanga police limits has left residents in shock after unidentified miscreants attacked an elderly couple and looted cash and valuables late Thursday night.
According to reports, two masked robbers broke into the house of Kumar Chatoi, a tent business owner, while he and his wife, Sailabala Chatoi, were asleep. The intruders assaulted the couple with iron rods, leaving them critically injured, before fleeing with gold ornaments and approximately ₹1 lakh in cash.
Kumar’s son confirmed the attack, stating, “Miscreants entered our house, attacked my parents, and looted all valuables and cash.”
At the time of the incident, the house was under construction. While Sailabala and her granddaughter were sleeping in one room, Kumar’s son and daughter-in-law were in another. The robbers broke in through the back door and struck when Kumar and his wife woke up, inflicting severe head injuries. Their granddaughter, however, managed to hide under the bed and escape harm.
“I was asleep when I heard a loud noise. I got frightened and hid under the bed after locking the room,” she recounted.
Following the incident, Balanga police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Officers collected fingerprints and examined CCTV footage from nearby areas. Preliminary findings suggest that the attackers were familiar with the family’s financial status and had planned the crime in advance.
The violent robbery has sparked concerns about security in the area, with locals demanding increased police patrolling and stricter safety measures. Police officials have assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the culprits at the earliest.
