Ektaa Kapoor Thanks Odisha CM for Tax Exemption on The Sabarmati Report

Bhubaneswar: Renowned producer Ektaa Kapoor met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi at the State Assembly on Tuesday to express her gratitude for exempting her film The Sabarmati Report from entertainment tax in Odisha.

Kapoor encouraged the Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers to watch the film, which is based on the tragic Godhra train burning incident. On November 28, the state government announced the tax exemption for the film, according to Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Mahaling.

Chief Minister Majhi took to social media platform X to highlight the decision, stating: “The Sabarmati Report sheds light on the Godhra tragedy, where Kar Sevaks were burned alive to incite unrest. The film is a powerful portrayal of this heart-wrenching event and aims to raise public awareness.”

The film has garnered significant attention for its portrayal of the 2002 incident, and its tax-free status is expected to encourage more viewers in Odisha to watch it.
