Driver Union Treasurer Aditya Behera Arrested

In a dramatic turn in the ongoing drivers’ agitation, Deogarh police have arrested Aditya Behera, the state treasurer of the Odisha Drivers’ Mahasangh, following allegations of misconduct and disrespect towards drivers.

The complaint was lodged by the Mini Truck Owners’ Association at Mancheswar Police Station, accusing Behera of actions perceived as insulting to working drivers. The arrest comes amidst an intensifying protest led by the Drivers’ Mahasangh demanding their inclusion in the Odisha Motor Transport Welfare Board, access to professional benefits, insurance coverage, and dedicated rest facilities.

This confrontation exposes deepening rifts between transport unions and stakeholders, with drivers continuing their ‘steering down’ movement to press for structural changes. The arrest has sparked mixed reactions across the state, with many viewing it as a flashpoint in the struggle for driver welfare and respect.

As the tension escalates, stakeholders await further government intervention and a resolution to the growing unrest in Odisha’s transportation sector.
