Double-Decker Electric Buses to Launch in Odisha

Bhubaneswar:  Odisha Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra announced today that double-decker electric buses will begin operating on routes in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri from January 6.

A fleet of five buses will start service on the specified routes, marking a significant step towards sustainable urban transport. The announcement came after the Minister reviewed ongoing roadworks, cleaning activities, and beautification efforts in preparation for the launch. During the review, Mohapatra directed engineers to resolve issues related to uneven road patches.

The new buses will feature designs reflecting Odisha’s rich art and culture. If successful, the fleet may be expanded to other urban areas in the state.

The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) had previously issued a tender for the selection of a bus operator to supply, operate, and maintain the double-decker electric buses under a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model for a 10+2 year period.
