Dolphin Census in Bhitarkanika & Gahirmatha to Begin From Tomorrow

Rajanagar: The dolphin census will begin from Monday in Gahirmatha marine sanctuary and Bhitarkanika National Park. The dolphin census will continue for three days from January 27 to January 29.
The counting of dolphins will begin from Dhamra river mouth to Devi Muhan river mouth and in canals and rivers flowing in Bhitarkanika.
Binoculars, GPS, camera, handicams and other equipments will be used for the dolphin counting. The counting will begin from 6.00 am and end at 12.00 am informed Rajanagar forest ranger.
Bhitarkanika is a house to five different species of dolphins namely Irrawady, Bottle Nose, Hump Back, Finless Porpoise and Gangetic dolphins.
Recently in Chilika lagoon, dolphin census was conducted from January 20 to January 22 for three days. The dolphin census is conducted in Bhitarkanika for the last five years. This decision came after the State Forests and Environment Department.
In the last few days in Odisha, annual bird census, crocodile census was conducted in Bhitarkanika and Chilika lagoon. Chilika lagoon is the largest brackish water lake in India.
